Python dict.update return value

python dictionary 의 update 함수는 return 값으로 None을 되돌린다. 이거 dict 자신을 return 하면, copy와 더불어 더 간단한 method-chain으로 쉽게 쓸 수 있는 일이 많았을텐데, 왜 None인것이야?
